Economic Development Promotes Sunderland to Deputy Director

WESTMINSTER, MD, Thursday, January 18, 2024 – The Carroll County Board of County Commissioners and the Department of Economic Development are excited to announce the promotion of Ms. Paige Sunderland to Deputy Director of the department. The new title is effective Thursday, January 18, 2024.

Deputy Director Sunderland will assist the director in the overall design, implementation, and enhancement of a comprehensive economic development program. Her responsibilities will include leading business development and marketing strategies that promote, attract, retain, and expand businesses with the goal of increasing the Carroll County industrial/commercial tax base and employment opportunities. She will also manage programs to encourage small business and agricultural development.

Ms. Sunderland earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Baltimore. She has been employed with Carroll County Government and worked in Economic Development in various positions since 1992. Most recently Paige was Business Development Manager with responsibilities such as managing programs to foster business development in the county and working with resident industries, real estate brokers, consultants, and prospects in efforts to expand existing operations and develop new business. In addition, she provided project management services to the department, the Small Business Development Center (SBCD), and Maryland Department of Commerce and is a member of NAIOP, the Commercial and Real Estate Development Association.

Ms. Sunderland lives just outside Westminster. She is married with one adult son and enjoys spending time with family, going to the gym, reading, traveling, and is a dedicated fan of the Baltimore Ravens.

With an established network already in place, I am prepared day one to work with our local municipalities, state and regional economic development organizations, and real estate development partners,” said Sunderland. “I am eager to take on new responsibilities including overseeing business and agricultural development and marketing. With the support of the Carroll County Commissioners, our department will embark on new initiatives to grow our economic base and provide quality jobs for the residents in Carroll County.”
