04 Dec Simple Cell Achieves WISE and R2v3 Certifications – Testament to Quality

Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Eldersburg, MD – A local recommerce company, Simple Cell, is excited to announce it received two new certifications, the Wireless Industry Service Excellence (WISE™) and the SERI R2v3 certification. Simple Cell specializes in selling and repairing cell phones, tablets, gaming consoles along with other small electronics and the complementary accessories. As a result, Simple Cell built a facility and hired staff to test, repair and refurbish these products. These new certifications exemplify Simple Cell’s commitment to not only meeting, but exceeding industry standards regarding responsible environmental behavior, proper repair processes, transparency and more. Both credentials position Simple Cell as a leader in responsible electronic repair, refurbishment and recycling.
WISE certification signifies the company and its technicians meet a set of industry-wide standards certifying to consumers that Simple Cell is a professional and reputable electronics repair site. The designation has two main components: a program for technicians and a program for authorized service providers (stores). Both certifications ensure that businesses and their technicians meet high standards for service quality, technical skill, and customer experience. Technicians are trained and tested prior to receiving their certifications.
SERI R2v3 certification indicates Simple Cell, a recycler of used electronics, was independently verified to follow the latest version of the Responsible Recycling (R2) Standard, a global certification for electronics recyclers and ITAD (IT Asset Disposition) providers. This certification verifies that the company follows strict requirements for protecting data security, employee health and safety, and being environmentally responsible. Perhaps the most important aspect of these certifications ensures the proper handling of data and safety protocols including protecting customer data and information prior to sale or recycling.
“This WISE certification helps identify us as a leader in quality electronic repair and makes us a destination for customers looking for high-quality and trusted device repair services,” said Jason Evans, General Manager. “R2v3 demonstrates we are a responsible and trustworthy electronics recycler.” Evans continued, “Many businesses and individuals are unsure or doubt the security and integrity of electronics retailers. These certifications should go a long way to establishing that customers can confidently visit Simple Cell to receive honest and leading-edge information and guidance regarding their electronic devices.”
About Simple Cell: Simple Cell, started by two young entrepreneurs, was founded in 2008. Owners Nick Skelly and Chris Metzger had a vision to leave the corporate world and start a business in the growing mobile device world. Starting in a basement in Mount Airy Maryland, things began to excel quickly. Gaining knowledge in the industry and expanding quickly by accumulating contacts, Simple Cell quickly outgrew the basement. The company moved into a first warehouse in Eldersburg, Maryland in 2012. Steadily building credibility in the mobile device industry and becoming a namesake to big box companies, the business outgrew the warehouse again. Simple Cell moved into its current 40,000 square foot location in Eldersburg in 2014. With more room to expand, the leadership decided to dive into the world of refurbishment and began obtaining industry certifications. Since then, the company gained many globally recognized certifications to lend to its growing credibility. Some major certifications include, R2V3, Wise Level 1 and 2, Apple certified IRP, ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001, among others. Simple cell currently employs 60+ in its labor force, with half of those employees working in the electronics department. Simple Cell also offers a buyback program for old devices. The next vision is to become a statewide training academy and advocate for device refurbishment and repair to be a recognized credential in the state. Come out and visit us in Eldersburg, Maryland.
