Laura Meck named 2015 Maryland Women in Business Champion of the Year

Sonata Venture Solutions, a strategic, results-centric consulting, marketing, branding and public relations firm is proud to announce that Laura Meck, CEO has been named this year’s Small Business Administration’s Women in Business Champion of the Year.  SBA will host an award luncheon on May 15, 2015 to celebrate the many accomplishments of Sonata Venture and other Maryland small businesses.

In recognition of the small business community’s contributions to the American economy and society, the President of the United States designates one week each year as National Small Business Week. This year, National Small Business Week is May 4-8, 2015.  The highlight of the National Small Business Week is the presentation of the awards spotlighting the outstanding contributions of small business persons and advocates at the district, state and national levels.

Laura Meck, CEO at Sonata Venture Solutions was nominated and subsequently recognized for the category of Women in Business Champion of the Year.  The criteria presented included:

  • Active support for legislative or regulatory action designed to help small businesses
  • Efforts to increase business and financial opportunities for women
  • Legal, financial or managerial assistance provided to enhance women’s business ownership
  • Voluntary efforts to strengthen the role of women business owners within the community
  • Advocacy of the women-owned business community, as a whole, not solely for individual personal advancement
  • Other accomplishments demonstrating effectiveness in improving the environment for the creation and expansion of businesses owned and operated by women

“I have heartily endorsed Laura for this award not only based upon her own success as a woman business owner but more importantly as recognition of the ongoing work she undertakes to educate business owners on how to drive their own business destiny, and her success in empowering them through education.  Her business model is not a traditional one – it focuses mainly on assisting business to “launch,” whether it’s their company, product and or service.  Laura’s work and her mission is to foster independent growth through knowledge with programs like The Launchbox®.  There are times where it is more beneficial to teach someone a specific skill, one that can permanently fill a need they have than to lock them into an outsourcing contract” stated Beth Woodring, former SBDC Counselor.

“While working with all small business owners is critical to our nation’s economic growth, I am especially proud to be working with women business owners and young women seeking to start businesses.  Women owned businesses are the fastest growing demographic in the U.S., yet continue to be the most difficult to fund, support and identify other resources for.  I thrive on seeing women owned businesses grow and build sustainable companies, leaving lasting legacies for the next generation” shared Laura Meck, CEO Sonata Venture Solutions.
