Interstate and Highway Network

Carroll County has access to one of the most reliable and comprehensive transportation networks in the country.

  • I-795 links Carroll to the Baltimore metropolitan area and the Baltimore Beltway.
  • I-695 moves traffic to northeastern and southern markets via I-95 and I-83.
  • I-70 intersects the southern border of Carroll providing easy access to I-270 to Washington, D.C. and western route to the Midwest.
  • US 15, located just north of Taneytown provides access to southern points such as Washington, D.C. and Richmond as well as northern markets such as Harrisburg, Philadelphia and New York.

Airports (International and Municipal)

Carroll County Regional Airport boasts a 5,100-foot runway that welcomes corporate jets. New corporate hangars and an on-site fuel farm provide amenities not available in many smaller facilities.

A short drive gives access to Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport.

Port

The nearby Port of Baltimore offers state-of-the-art transportation facilities for a variety of cargo and container shops. Rail Services

Maryland Midland Railway, with headquarters in Carroll County, operates an efficient short line that transports products to CSXT, Norfolk Southern and points beyond.
Features:

  • Maryland Midland Railway carried 12,644 carloads of all types of freight in FY 2006.
  • Its largest commodities include cement, stone, coal, and lumber and forest products.
  • Maryland Midland Railway offers a premier 117-acre rail-served industrial site, with public water, sewer, and electricity to property line, for sale in Taneytown, Maryland. Initial site engineering is complete, subject to Taneytown fast-track permit approval process.
